Nanny/au pair

If you have more than one child, or share with another family, you can also receive a contribution for a nanny or 'oppas' who comes to your own home. This is in some ways the best solution, especially for babies, as they receive high levels of attention in their own home environment. It is also much more relaxed if you may not be able to be home exactly on time to pick up children. Your child's own schedule is also much more likely to be followed, and the frequency of illnessness is much lower. However, you are reliant on one person and need to trust them implicitly. Do be aware that if the nanny works for more than 3 days for you you will be responsible for their insurance as their only employer, which becomes more complicated and expensive. There are lots of companies that can find you someone and organize the financial side, but do be aware that they vary enormously in quality: a company I used (regeltante) sent us two highly unsatisfactory people, neither of whom the agency had even met, and who had had no police checks or screenings whatsoever.
I recommend you contact www.blueumbrella.nl for advice at least.

One agency that does seem to provide decent people (but is expensive) is www.nanny.nl.
Do also be aware that you can get a contribution for anyone who is registered officially who looks after your children.
The company www.gob-juventa.nl can register someone you already have unofficially (family member, friend, lady next door) and will sort out the finances. They are very helpful, and will even come to your house to advise you, but you need to be prepared to speak Dutch.
